Notices, homework, attendance, marks, behaviour, term reports and fee accounts — for South African schools, on the phone parents already carry.
Most schools already run on four things at once: a class WhatsApp group nobody can leave, a paper diary that goes missing, a spreadsheet only one person can open, and a printed report that arrives three weeks after anything could have been done about it.
Pennant is the same information, held once, and shown to each person only where it concerns them.
One place for what the school is telling families, with a term calendar beside it — academic, sport, cultural and admin.
A class register a teacher can take in under a minute: present, absent, late or excused, with a note where one is needed.
What was set, when it is due and roughly how long it should take. Marks recorded against the CAPS seven-point scale.
Your school's own conduct code, not ours. Merits reach a parent immediately; demerits arrive as one summary at three, so a hard morning is not a stream of alerts at someone's desk.
Written by the subject teachers, checked by the class teacher, signed off by the principal, then released — and frozen. A correction is a numbered revision that says what changed.
A parent and a teacher, one to one. A class post reaches every parent at once and every reply comes back privately — parents never see each other.
Statements and balances, visible to the parents who owe them, so the office answers the question once instead of forty times.
A principal, a bursar, a class teacher and a receptionist do not need the same access, and in Pennant they do not have it.
Register the school and the four South African school terms are already there, along with the CAPS subject list — 264 subjects across the phases, including the arts, the languages and the technical subjects that usually have to be typed in by hand.
Add your classes, invite your staff, and hand each family a join code. Nothing has to be imported before the system is useful.
See your own children and nobody else's. A code links one child, expires, and cannot be redeemed without a second fact only your family knows.
The register, today's classes, homework, marks and behaviour on one screen — and a way to reach a parent that is not your personal number.
Enrolment, staff, classes, the fee roll and the school calendar, with access split by job rather than handed out whole.
Your school is the responsible party for its learners' information and Pennant is your operator. Every read and write is checked on the server against rules that encode who may see what — the app asking nicely is not what grants access. Pennant's own staff can see school names and account counts to run the service, and cannot read learner records.
Read the privacy notice for what is held, where it lives, and what your school can ask for.
Get in touch and we will walk your governing body through it, including the operator agreement POPIA requires between a school and a system like this one.
